One fan was extremely optimistic about the team’s chances at the tournament, claiming they were immediately turning their notifications on as they expected the US to make a run to the semifinals.

They also claimed they were therefore expecting free Chipotle for ‘over a month’ but to dash the supporter’s hopes, the tournament is only four weeks long.

Meanwhile, another also showed optimism, albeit limited, as they said: ‘C’mon y’all. We should expect at least one code drop lol.’

However, some USMNT fans didn’t appear to have much faith in their team as they claimed they would be getting ‘zero’ free Chipotle.

In response to the announcement, one fan posted: ‘So what you are saying is we aren’t getting free chipotle?’

Others took direct hits at the team, claiming Ricardo Pepi’s exclusion from the squad, satucash Jesus Ferreira starting up front and Berhalter’s tactics would prevent the promotion happening.

‘Pepi would have got us free chipotle,’ one fan lamented.

Another questioned if it was a tactical move, as they posted: ‘So is this why Jesus will start? So nobody gets free Chipotle?’

‘Well with Gregg in charge, this is a pretty safe promotion for Chipotle,’ another added.

Meanwhile, one claimed Chipotle’s executives had watch the USMNT’s September friendlies, in which they lost 2-0 to Japan and drew in a goalless stalemate with Saudi Arabia, and felt it was a safe business bet to green light the promotion.

After its opener against LAFC’s Gareth Bale and Co. the US face old rivals England on November 25 and Iran in the final group stage game on November 29.
